On the road again! Here's a brief account of where I've been and where I'm going. If I find myself duly inspired, I might work up a more descriptive travelogue, though hopefully not one as depressing as the one I wrote during my European Adventures! February 1998
Picked up my brand new Nash 22H travel trailer on the 9th and spent two weeks getting used to it at an all-women RV park in Apache Junction, AZ. Pulled it out to dusty old El Paso, TX to get my Texas driver's license and register my vehicles, and then drove up to Oakland, CA to visit my sweetie and pick up an old friend for a two week adventure. March 1998
Took my friend on the canyon tour, starting with the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona and heading up into Utah, to Arches, Canyonlands, Capitol Reef, Bryce and Zion. Such amazingly beautiful geography! I'm still stunned by the memories of it. Headed back to Oakland and fell asleep for a whole day (driving 2600 miles in two weeks will do that to ya!). Pulled the trailer up to Calistoga for a lovely weekend with my sweetie, then struck out for warmer territories. Namely, Death Valley. April 1998
Spent a couple of warm weeks in the stark, rugged desert wonderland of Death Valley, then dragged my little home over to Congress, Arizona for a while, to enjoy the sunsets. Then on to Phoenix, for some repairs to the trailer. I'm in the dull little town of Casa Grande, AZ at the moment, scheduled to return to Phoenix for more work next week. May 1998
Spent the first couple of weeks camping out in Benson, AZ, near the "old west" town of Tombstone, site of that famous American battle: Gunfight at the OK Corral! Then drove up to Tucson for the weekend and camped with the bugs and other critters at Catalina State Park. Spent Memorial Day weekend in Sedona, visiting with my sweetie, and then a few days in the cute little town of Flagstaff. I closed out the month by driving up to Mesa Verde National Park in southwest Colorado and checking out the cool ancient cliff dwellings! June 1998
After visiting Mesa Verde, I drove eastward to the very charming town of Durango and am currently (as of 6/4) camping north of town, up in the mountains on Haviland Lake. It's so pretty! But at an elevation of 8100, also a tad chilly! Next I plan to aim for Gunnison, CO for a few days, before heading up to the Boulder area for a while. The general plan, for anyone who's interested: June in Colorado, July in Wyoming, August in Montana, September in Washington, October in Oregon and November in northern California. Beyond that, who knows! November 1998
Hmm, well, guess I had a change of plans! I got to the Boulder area in June... and I never left! I'd been wandering around searching for something meaningful to do with my life, or at least fun, and when I got to this area and saw all the horses and open land, it dawned on me: I want to work with horses. That's all I wanted to do growing up, so it's kind of fitting that I should now return to my first love. So I found a horse farm in Loveland that needed help and hauled my trailer over there to stay. Even bought my own horse! Now I'm looking for a 35 acre piece of land where I can build the horse property of my dreams. November 1999
One year later, my dream is a reality. Check it out!!
