I turn Jigsaw out in the upper arena for a couple of hours a few times a week, just to give her some space to roam around. There isn't much to eat up there but she does her darndest to find stuff!
From a TTEAM clinic in September. We wrapped her body and legs in ACE bandages to help her gain awareness of her body and in particular her legs, so she wouldn't stumble so much and would learn to pick up her legs when going over poles. The wrap is part of the TTEAM work and can have dramatic results, since horses often don't know where their legs or hind ends are -- which is what can make them spooky, because they're not sure what's behind them. This helps them get a "re-integrated" sense of themselves. TTEAM is kinda like new age body work for animals...
Since Milty is kinda funny about his hind end, we wrapped him too! And then made him jump. Not just for the cute photo opp either -- once wrapped, the animal needs to move around to get a sense for where his or her body parts are and how they're working. The clinic partipants get wrapped too, to demonstrate how it works -- and I'm here to tell ya, it really makes a difference to experience one leg wrapped and one not. It's like the wrapped leg suddenly knows where its limits are and can therefore function more freely. Which is of course true for more than just the body...
